Step 1: Defining Your Niche
Instagram has well over 800 million monthly users. This is an insane number and you can easily find your target audience on Instagram. When you are growing as an influencer, it is important to find one specific niche and dominate that niche.
Whether that’s lifestyle content, beauty or fashion, yo have a target audience of people who want to see your content.
By doing this, it really won’t make a different whether you have a small amount of followers or a large amount – brands want to work with influencer and bloggers who can engage their audience.
Step 2: Create High-Quality Content
I’m sure you hear this one a lot but it is true. You need to create high-quality content to drive people, comments and followers to your account.
If your blog posts are lackluster or your Instagram feed doesn’t flow well, you won’t attract people to your account or your blog.
When you are sharing high-quality posts and images that inspire or educate people, your audience will grow. You also need to spend time planning out your content calendar. This way you know what to post and when to post it. You can check out this post here that lists the top influencers in 2021 for different niches. You can get some ideas from their feeds and create your own.
When creating content, you also need to make sure that your blog posts are targeting the right audience as well. If you are new to blogging and you want to start monetizing your blog, I suggest you check out these tips and tools for new bloggers.
Step 3: Create Your Brand And Be Consistent With Your Theme
Have you ever stumbled upon another blogger’s website and fell in love with their theme? Did it just flow so perfectly with matching colors and text throughout? The same should be true for your blog and your instagram feed.
I am not saying you have to only wear pink and take photos with backgrounds of pink hues. I am saying that your aesthetics should match your brand. If your brand colors are black, white and pink, your blog should have those colors and so should any content you create. When creating Instagram Stories, you can create stories with your brand colors as well.
The one thing that sets apart successful influencers and bloggers from others is a consistent brand theme aesthetic.
A beautiful feed helps your audience know exactly what to expect from your account and it increases your engagement. It will feel more like an experience to your audience because everything goes with your branded colors.
When you start to work with brands, they will take this into account and your engagement statistics play a big part in you working with brands. Again, you do not have to have a massive following. What you do need to have is an engaged audience who is influenced by you.
When you start working with brands, your engagement statistics play a big part in you landing that paying gig.
Find a feed design that works for you (meaning, you can stick to it consistently) and start standing out from the rest.

Step 4: Consistently Post On Instagram And Your Blog
When you post consistently on Instagram, your feed will get pushed higher up in the newsfeed. This is because Instagram rewards accounts that post consistently on their feed. Whether you are posting multiple times a day or multiple times a week, you must be consistent and stick to your schedule.
Step 5: Engage Your Audience
If you want to grow your audience and your income, you must engage with your audience. The most successful influencers and bloggers interact with their audience. You can do this by asking a question in the caption box on Instagram or by asking a question at the bottom of your blog post.
Spend time connecting and replying to comments. When you engage with your audience, it creates a strong sense of community and a deeper connection. Your authenticity is an important part in growing your following. People want to engage with real people. Your audience wants to get to know you.
You can also increase your engagement by asking your followers questions in Instagram Stories. You can ask questions like, “what should I wear today?” or “Where should I travel to?”
Remember, Instagram rewards you for creating content that receives replies by boosting your profile up in the newsfeed. This allows for new people to find you and connect with you.
You can always ask for feedback from your followers as well. This is a great way to understand your audience and their needs and wants. You can ask them what type of content they want to see from you. This will also strengthen your relationships with brands as you grow stronger in your niche.
Step 6: Reach Out To Brands
Once you have an engaged audience on Instagram, it is time to start reaching out to brands. Don’t be afraid of pitching (even if you have a small account), as brands are looking for influencers and bloggers with an engaged audience.
If you would prefer to join Influencer platforms, one platform to check out is Intellifluence. You can create a profile on their account and apply to brand partnerships and sponsored posts opportunities that are within your niche.
You can check out this post here which features an influencer and her journey to becoming an influencer. It’s a pretty good read and it is a reminder that anyone can become an influencer with consistency and persistence.
By the way, when I started out as an influencer, I had less than 1,000 followers and I was able to work with brands and get paid based on my engagement, content and niche. So don’t be afraid to try!
I know it may seem scary at first, especially if it is your first time. The more you practice your pitch, the easier it becomes. Don’t let anything hold you back.
